| | My friend was married this weekend. I am exceptionally happy for her. I believe I have not been this glad about something in a very long while actually. It was such a blessing to witness. It was also a check. The kind that grabs you by the collar and slams you up against the closest wall. What is it to be in the pursuit of love? One could pull out the numerous equations that have been summed up to the lofty goal of being in the state of falling in love, in love, or simply stated being love. All of these are different. Love is not falling. It is deliberate. Love is based on more than a feeling. It is a belief. I believe in love, and I believe that being in love is a choice. I believe that the greatest love of all was shown us on a cross by Jesus Christ some2000 years prior to my existence. He has the right to define love. This is a weighty statement. This would render our previous explanations of the word as frightfully decrepit examples. The debauchery and lust that so many call "love" or physical infatuation, is not love, in the truth of the matter. Love is beyond physical pleasure. Love endures all things. Things that are painful, hard, and ruthless. Love is the thing that does no harm to its neighbor and resolves to offer the clothes on its back to the naked. It "always protects, always trusts, always perseveres. Love never fails." (I Corinthians 13). Love is something that is beyond human capability and reasoning. So, what might be the answer to my original question. What is it to be in the pursuit of love? I believe that it is to be in the pursuit of Christ. The revelation of love is found in He who perfected it. |
